I want to tell a short story about the time I met another Tie-Dye Dave.

I was following the Grateful Dead around from show to show. I believe the year was, hmm, let me think for a second, 1993 or early 1994. I was walking around the parking lot selling my T-shirts and a friend from tour comes over to me and says. Yo', he he, Tie-Dye Dave, come here I want you to meet some one. We go an isle or 2 over and he says.
Tie-Dye Dave meet Tie-Dye Dave.
I weigh 160 5' 10" brown / red hair and I am a bundle of crazy energy.
State Collage Tie-Dye Dave is a little heavier about the same height or maybe a little shorter, with Red hair and is a laid back type of guy (from what I am told and from the short meeting, what I gathered).
He was holding up some of his shirts and they were great. We all laughed and Dave and I shook hands. He is from the state collage area (central PA) and we both have run into many people who know the other one of us. I really didn't take the time to chat for long because (as always) I was on my way to do something (I don't recall what) and I had to run. Most likely I had to get back to where My stuff was set up.
State collage Tie-Dye Dave is a great guy (that is what ALL of the people who have met him say when I ask about him) If you know The State Collage Tie-Dye Dave, Please get us in touch with each other.
And A note to the tour Friend who did the introducing, Thanks. Wish I knew who you were.

Well I got beaten up pretty good. I learned a few expensive lessons, and had to change the direction I was Headed.

But I will survive. For now the Retail store is done, But, I am sure that after working for someone else for awhile, I will start another business.

I hate doing Flea Markets but I need to liquidate my left over stock.

Stinks for me but good for my customers. My prices are allot lower at the Saylorsburg Flea Market then they were at the store in Tannersville.

Well thanks for everything Everybody.

peace

Subject: set tie dye color

Dave,
I have a tie dye bed spread that continues to bleed on pj's.  Do I wash it in hot or cold water?  Do I put anything in the water to set the dye?

Thanks,

This is a common question I get

The following is my response

To **********

HHHMmmmmmmmmm

not sure
Did you or a friend do the tie-Dye?????
Is it 100% cotton?

I would wash in cold
then
as hot as can be
then once more in cold
Then dry on HIGH heat untill it is bone dry

The first cold wash gets the fibers full of water
the hot wash pulls out most/all the excess dye
then the cold wash removes "all" the rest
the dryer helps set the dye
Theoretically
some say salt or vinegar helps set the color
but I have never used either to set the dye
I presoak my shirts in soda ash and water mix
but once dyed ,,,soda ash is not helpful.

Also do not leave wet
any tie-dye can bleed if left wet for an extended period of time

Peace
and good luck
Tie-Dye Dave
